Birthmothers Day

Today is birth mother's day.  I have always been amazed at the great love and unselfishness birthmothers have.  They love their children so much that they are willing to let another mother raise their child so their child will get the love, attention, education, LIFE that they deserve.

Hope's birthmother Suzie is an amazing person, whom lives a colorful life.  She knew that she was in NO position to raise a child and wanted a better life for her child.  When Suzie signed over her parental rights, she told us to love her baby and tell Hope every day that her mommy Suzie loves her.  She also wants us to send letters and pictures of Hope until she is 18.  She said that she just wants to know that she is okay and doing well.

The day we became adoptive parents was one of the most emotional days of my life.  Watching a mother give up her child so that I could have that child.

Here is a great quote about birthmothers that I am borrowing from a friends blog...
"Today is Birthmother's Day, a day designed to honor the sacrifice of women who have given up so much. Many birthmothers go through life unrecognized as the mother of the child they placed for adoption. Some have other children and some do not. Yet the thing they all have in common is they are phenomenal mothers. One thing that exemplifies a good mother is her willingness to put her child's needs before her own. There is little doubt there is a lot of sacrifice that goes into being a parent.

A birthparent also puts her child's needs before her own, and because of it makes one of the greatest sacrifices any parent can ever make. This makes her a pretty amazing mother, whether she is parenting her child or not.  Mother's Day can be a bittersweet and difficult day for birthparents. While other mothers are honored, her sacrifice and status as a mother often goes ignored."

We love you Mommy Suzie. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
